Please get in touch if you would like to speak to us directly.

How do I place an order, and how can I pay?

Using the contact form please let us know your requirements, or telephone with your order details, including your address for invoicing and delivery, and a contact telephone number.

If we have the leather in stock, you will then receive a pro-forma invoice, including delivery costs. You can pay using a debit card over the phone or via a bank transfer. We do not accept PayPal payments or any credit cards. The leather will usually be dispatched soon after payment has been received.

If I place an order, how quickly can I get the leather?

If the leather is in stock, we can usually dispatch within a few days. Once dispatched the courier usually aims to deliver within 3 working days.

Do we process sheepskins or other animal skins?

We do not process sheepskins as this is a very different process. Contact Devonia in Buckfastleigh, Devon. Our machinery and process is only designed and developed for the processing of ox hides.

Can we leave the hair on?

We do not have the right machinery and process for leaving the hair on.

Can we process a customer’s own hides?

We occasionally can process a customer’s own hides. Please contact us to discuss this.

What can J.& F.J. Baker leather be used for?

Uses of our leather are wide and varied. It is most popular for harness making, saddlery, shoe-making, belts, bags and small leather goods. It is also used to produce equipment for historical re-enactments and films, boat building, interior furnishings, bookbinding and blacksmithing. This list is not the limit of our leather's uses.

Is it possible to have the leather in different colours?

It is, although there is a minimum order for colours outside of our usual range.

Is there a minimum order?

Our minimum order for the UK is one piece – butt, shoulder etc.

Can I order from outside of the UK?

Yes, except from the U.S.A where we operate through an agent. Please contact us with your requirements.
There is a minimum order value of £350.

What are the charges for delivery?

The standard delivery charge for UK customers is £20. For very heavy orders there may be an additional charge. Delivery charges for customers outside of the UK are calculated according to weight and size. We will provide a quote for delivery, together with an invoice for the leather when an order is placed.

What is the difference between oak bark tanned leather and mixed tannage (veg. tanned)?

Oak bark tanned leather takes 12 months to tan, mixed tannage (veg tanned) leather is a quicker process. Oak bark leather is particularly strong, durable and hardwearing.

Is it possible to have some samples?

We do send out samples. We have a large range so please contact us with your specific requirements, e.g. Oak bark bridle butt, dark stain. There is a small charge to cover postage and administration costs.
