Russian Leather
Russian leather has been treated with Birch oil which gives it the distinctive smoky aroma for which it was famous make it water resistance, supple and gives the brown leather its beautiful variation in colour throughout the hide.
Bridle Butt
The Bridle Butt is the premium part of the hide. It has fewer growth marks and is used for belts, bags, saddlery and many other leather goods. Average dimensions:
Bridle Shoulder
The shoulder shows more growth and character of the animals hide. It is used for bags, small accessories and other leather goods that want to show off unique leather.
Bridle Backs
Bridle Backs are used to make items needing extra length, such as reins.
Harness Backs
Harness backs are thicker than Bridle Backs making them stronger. They are used for items such as reins.
Stirrup Butt
Stirrup Butts are thicker than Bridle Butts and have been treated with extra greases to feed the leather fibres providing extra strength and suppleness.
Greasy Oak Bark Stirrup Butt
The greasy Stirrup butt is thicker than a Bridle Butt and has been treated with extra greases for strength and suppleness. The greasy stirrup butt has not been stained. The colour is produced by the greases it is treated with.
